The unit of currency in Tanzania is shilling, available in notes and coins. One shilling is divided into 100 cents. There are no restrictions on how much you should travel with and no currency declaration is required. But import and export of Tanzania currency is illegal. Foreign currency in cash or travelers checks may be exchanged at banks, authorized dealers and at the Bureau de Change at the International airports, major towns and border posts.

Electricity

Tanzania use the UK/European standard power supply of 220/240 voltage. If you want to use U.S. appliances, you will need a voltage converter as well as a plug converter. However, we do suggest bringing a battery-operated appliance with you, if possible.

Language

The official languages in Tanzania are Kiswahili and English. There is a wide usage and understanding of English, particularly in the town centers. Our tour guides speak fluent English, French, Spanish and German. If there are other language requirements,we ask to be notified at least two months prior to your safari.

Security

Tanzania is the safest country in East Africa. However, just as in any other country, you must be cautious of your surrounding. Avoid wearing expensive jewelry, walking in the dark, deserted streets and keep an eye on your purses, wallets, handbags and cameras. Never accept food or drinks from strangers.

Shopping

You have a lot of shopping places to experience! Most lodges have curio shops and, in the cities, we have a lot of art galleries. You are encouraged to support local people by buying from their shops. We also have Tanzanite and other beautiful stones to purchase. Your guide can take you to those places.

Tipping

It is advisable to bring a reasonable amount of one dollar bills to be used as tips in the lodges and camps. Tipping the driver guide is to be done solely by the discretion of the clients. Gratuities range from forty to seventy dollars a day.

It never gets really cold in Tanzania so lightweight clothing is the standard unless otherwise you are trekking mountains such as Kilimanjaro and Meru. However, in Arusha and Ngorongoro crater rim one can experience colder weather in the months of June and July. On safari, short sleeved shirts, blouses and shorts are ideal. A light jacket or sweater may be needed in the evening at higher altitudes. Sensible walking shoes, a hat with a wide enough brim to keep off the sun, and sunglasses are essential. Will in your vacation remember that you don’t need to dress up, safari dresses are normally casual.
